Cicero-North Syracuse’s Northstars Winterguard is the longest-running program of its kind in New York state. Earlier this month, the program celebrated 50 seasons at the Cicero-North Syracuse Varsity Home Show with a performance from the current guard and an alumni performance.

And when the Warriors made that trip to face the combined Jamesville-DeWitt/CBA side on Thursday night, it was ready, saving its best work for the latter stages of the competition and pulling away for a 99.5-86.5 victory over the Red Rams.

Liverpool’s wrestling team would get the showdown with Baldwinsville it wanted so much, only it had to wait a week and a half for it. Having seen their meet on Jan. 7 postponed, the Warriors and Bees waited to square off until both were in the LHS gymnasium for Saturday’s Liverpool Duals, and Liverpool won it, 43-33, beginning a clean sweep of the day’s events.

With the preliminaries, and most of its tournament schedule, now behind them, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls basketball team was set to accept all the challengers from the CNY Counties League. And that included Liverpool, who hosted the Northstars last Saturday in the makeup of their snowed-out Dec. 10 game and could not keep up with the depth that C-NS displayed during a 68-29 victory.
