Shaky start erased by second-quarter scoring burst

A nervous, shaky start by the Cicero-North Syracuse football team in 2015 was understandable. It also didn't last too long. Twenty-two unanswered points in the second quarter turned around the Northstars' opener against Kingston Thursday night in the Kickoff Classic at the Carrier Dome, leading to a 35-14 victory in the first game for new head coach Dave Kline.

All around them, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys soccer team can see success, and often at the Northstars’ expense. Absent an outright Section III Class AA title since 2006, the Northstars again were close a season ago, taking a narrow 2-1 defeat in the sectional semifinals to eventual champion Fayetteville-Manlius.

But a sharply hit fly ball to right was not enough, as the Northstars fell to Section II champion Saratoga Springs by a score of 2-1 last Saturday’s AA regional final at Onondaga Community College.

Theetge, McArdell lead Northstars past West Genesee

For the first time since 2009, the Cicero-North Syracuse baseball team has captured the Section III Class AA title, and it only figured that its best pitcher and best hitter had central roles. The top-seeded Northstars shut out no. 2 seed West Genesee 4-0 in the AA final Wednesday night at the Onondaga Community College complex as Steven Theetge dominated on the mound and Jake McArdell had the key blow in the decisive sixth-inning rally.

Softball Warriors repeat as sectional champs

Liverpool rolls past Utica Proctor, 24-2, in AA final

Maybe it was an unfamiliar setting and an unfamiliar opponent, but the Liverpool softball team didn't care, as long as the outcome was familar - and happy. Repeating as Section III Class AA champions, the top-seeded Warriors blew open Monday night's sectional AA final against Utica Proctor at Onondaga Community College in the second inning and went on to rout the Raiders 24-2.
