A year from now, top track and field athletes will return to Cicero-North Syracuse as it once again hosts the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet. They’ll hold this year’s state meet at the University at Albany, though, and a full array of talent from C-NS and Liverpool will be there on the Division I (large school) side after their work at last Friday’s Section III state qualifier held at Bragman Stadium.

Theetge, McArdell lead Northstars past West Genesee

For the first time since 2009, the Cicero-North Syracuse baseball team has captured the Section III Class AA title, and it only figured that its best pitcher and best hitter had central roles. The top-seeded Northstars shut out no. 2 seed West Genesee 4-0 in the AA final Wednesday night at the Onondaga Community College complex as Steven Theetge dominated on the mound and Jake McArdell had the key blow in the decisive sixth-inning rally.

Maybe it was an unfamiliar setting and an unfamiliar opponent, but the Liverpool softball team didn't care, as long as the outcome was familar - and happy. Repeating as Section III Class AA champions, the top-seeded Warriors blew open Monday night's sectional AA final against Utica Proctor at Onondaga Community College in the second inning and went on to rout the Raiders 24-2.
