None of the Section III swimmers participating in last weekend's New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet at Ithaca College did as well as Liverpool's Madeline Murphy, at least in terms of getting near the top of the medal podium.
Muldoon-led Warriors dominate 26 challengers at Bowdoin Park
Two weeks after it fell just short of dethroning eventual state champion Fayetteville-Manlius in the Section III Class A meet, the Liverpool boys cross country team gained a valuable prize of its own. Without the Hornets to worry about, the Warriors pulled away from 25 challengers and won team honors at Saturday's New York State Federation Championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls.
Short-handed Northstars give up first goals in two months
Absent its leading goal-scorer, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls soccer team still firmly believed that it could capture a state Class AA championship. But Massapequa wasted little time shattering the Northstars' hopes in the first half of Saturday's state AA semifinal at Cortland High School, ending C-NS's long scoreless streak and converting on a trio of corner kicks and going on to prevail by a score of 4-1.
