LETTER: Zambrano looking forward to serving as supervisor

— LETTER: Zambrano looking forward to serving as supervisor

To the editor:

Four weeks after Election Day, the campaigning and vote-counting seem like a distant memory. What remains vivid, however, is meeting hundreds of Cicero residents over several months who expressed a myriad of comments and concerns about our town government. Most I met were happy with the direction of the town these past two years, and I have been proud to work under the leadership of Supervisor Jim Corl. Much has been accomplished in this administration, such as investments in the town’s infrastructure, fiscal accountability, and increased economic development, among many other accomplishments. There is much left to be done, however.

Each municipality in this state is facing financial challenges to one degree or another. This is due to unfunded mandates forced on us from the state and the county, increased employee benefits via union contracts, and the ever-increasing costs of doing business. All this is occurring in an environment of decreasing revenues. I have spoken with each individual who will serve with me on the town board starting on Jan. 1, and we are all committed to providing the highest quality services possible at the most reasonable costs for Cicero residents.

In order to best serve the public, I am attempting to collate all comments and ideas I received while meeting residents and individuals in business to serve as a blueprint for planning in 2014. For those residents who want to become more involved in town government or who have specific issues or ideas, please contact me at jessicazambrano@outlook.com or at 699-8694.

Additionally, I wanted to take this opportunity to acknowledge the generosity and commitment of the large number of supporters who worked to give Councilors Mike Becallo and Mark Venesky the opportunity to serve the town. Our thanks also to the approximately 5,400 voters who turned out on Election Day for their participation in the democratic process and to make their wishes known.

Your focus on residents is much appreciated. Thank you for your open invitation for people to approach you with ideas or to become more involved. I'm looking forward to Cicero's future in 2014. Jim Corl reached out to people and I'm pleased that you are carrying that concept forward.
