Liverpool LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Campaigning at a church is reprehensible
To the editor:
Two years ago on the Sunday before Election Day, we were dismayed to see political fliers attached to our car and all of the other cars in our church parking lot after Mass. These single-issue flyers were from the national and New York state Right to Life Committees. We should not have been surprised when this tactic designed to influence a captive audience was used again this past weekend. We believe that it was reprehensible that those flyers were distributed in a surreptitiously and under-handed way while people were in church and that this tactic blurred the line between separation of church and state. The flyer touting Assemblyman Don Miller's reelection was particularly egregious and should be repudiated by the assemblyman. We could not help but notice the disgust and dismay of fellow parishioners who removed the flyers from their vehicles after church services. Haven't we all had enough of such campaign tactics and personal attacks?
