With almost no rest, the Cicero-North Syracuse track and field teams went to separate weekend meets and found plenty of success.
It started on Friday, when the boys Northstars went to the Cook-DeStefano Relays at Utica Proctor and won with 211 points, beating the host Raiders, who was second with 151 points.
The Northstars prevailed in four different relays – the 4x100 (45.25 seconds), 4x800 (9:55.59), 4x200 (1:37.64) and 1,600 sprint medley (1:37.64), with second-place efforts in the distance medley and 4x400.
Individually, Frank Volino ran the 110 high hurdles in 15.10 seconds as Morgan Austen took fourth place. Anthony Lupia won the mile in 5:00.30 and Colin Greenseich was third. Paul DeGennaro (11:02.90) landed a victory in the 3,200-meter run.
Otherwise, it was a string of second and third-place finishes that piled up, from Mark Broughton getting second in the 200 and third in the 100 to Joel Brousseau in the high jump and Donovan Kims in the shot put earning runner-up spots. Nathan Hilt was second in the 400 in 57.81 seconds.
On Saturday, the C-NS went to the Skaneateles-Marcellus Invitational and earned plenty of top honors.
Mariah Thomson swept the throwing events, heaving the discus 96 feet 7 inches and also throwing the shot put 35’3”, in each case beating the field by a healthy margin.
In distance races,Nicole Watterud shifted to the 2,000-meter steeplechase and won, her time of 7:25.30 more than 17 seconds ahead of Skaneateles’ Madeline Adams as Marissa Colburn finished third in 7:54.15.
Jacqlynn Halstead (10:26.69) and Maria LaMontagne (10:38.31) went 1-2 in the 3,000-meter run, with Katie Laris claiming the 1,500-meter run in 4:59.74 as Taylor Parry (5:05.16) took third place.
Jessica Wheeler was a close second (17.02 seconds) to Lyme’s Audrey Schwind (16.96 seconds) in the 100 hurdles, adding a third (9’6”) in the pole vault. Marissa Puma was fourth in the 100 sprint, in 13.73 seconds. Shannon McCarthy and Nicole Harringshaw tied for fourth in the high jump.
Katie Osborne, who rested most of the day, did help Jade Jenkins, Emily Tolbert and Javielle Fanizzi win the 4x400 relay in 4:18.63. Puma, McCarthy, Reid Garner and Lizzie Westfall were second (55.04 seconds) to Corcoran (53.74 seconds) in the 4x100.
