CNS Blue golfers beat local rivals

Northstars top Liverpool in unbeaten week

— In their annual head-to-head meeting, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys Blue and Green golf teams played a fairly tight match at Northern Pines last Monday afternoon.

Blue still won, 192-202, over Green, as Mike Mento led all individual players with a nine-hole total of 35. Kevin Stone had a 37, while Eric Hamilton and Frank Volino had matching totals of 38.

Behind them, John Mayers and Luke Cavallo landed on 40, with Derek Teague shooting a 41. Mark Catalfano, Austin Parzych and Robert Tarson each shot 42.

And CNS Blue did not stop there, turning around on Wednesday and knocking off rival Liverpool 198-204 in another match at Northern Pines.

Mike Cavallo paced the Northstars, his 36 one shot better than the Warriors’ Karl Deuble. Bill Folosi stepped it to shoot a 39, while Teague posted a 40 and Mento added a 41. Kevin Stone added a 42. For the Warriors, David Pisciarino had a 40, with Eric Corp adding a 41. Sean Martens and Aaron Malay both shot 43.

To complete the circle, CNS Blue defeated Central Square 197-209 on Thursday afternoon. Teague posted a 37, one ahead of Mento, with Mike Cavallo chipping in with a 40. Stone and Corey Piper each shot 41.

Before this, Liverpool took a blow to its cause last Monday with a 200-208 home defeat to Fayetteville-Manlius at Liverpool Country Club.

Steve Baldini shot a 40, but three F-M players beat it, including Dan Thomas, with a 37, and Nick Perrucci and Anthony Millimaci, each with a 38. Eric Corp and Karl Deuble gave the Warriors equal rounds of 41, while Sean Martens struggled to a 43, the same total as teammate Ryan Contegni.

A day later, the Warriors handled Syracuse 200-228, also at LCC. Corp and Deuble both stepped up, their matching totals of 37 the top individual scores by four shots. John Rojek had a season-best 41, while Martens posted a 42. Aaron Malay contributed a 43.

CNS Green lost 211-238 to Auburn at Highland Golf Course. Luke Cavallo, playing for Green, posted a 43, while Tyler Dubois had a 47. Adam Smith and Eric Hamilton each shot 49. Nikita Rosenblum (39) and Mike May (40) led the Maroons’ effort.
